Affordable Resort in Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic

My family and I recently had the opportunity to spend the holidays in our homeland, Dominican Republic. We wanted to spend Christmas in a good resort where we could relax and enjoy the beauty our Island has to offer. However, to our surprise, almost every  all-inclusive hotel were requiring a minimum of seven nights stay and/ or their rates were absolutely out of our limited budget. Riu Palace Bavaro for instance, gave us a quote of $1,106 USD for a double bedroom, 2 adults and 2 kids, staying December 24th – 26th.

Be aware of the quality and prices differences between hotels in highly touristic Punta Cana and Bavaro, to those of Juan Dolio in the province of San Pedro de Macoris. In my last attempt, I redirected my search to hotels in the small seaside community in the southern coast of the Island. Hotel prices in Juan Dolio were more attractive, they actually adjusted to our wallets and the proximity to our hometown, Santo Domingo, made it more convenient.

We prefer to spend more time in a resort and less time on the road, these are some of the things you have to take into account when you are visiting any country or city for a short period of time.

We had been in few Juan Dolio resorts before, therefore our hopes were downgraded from “having the best time of our lives” to “just bringing the kids to the pool”. To our surprise, Emotions by Hodelpa, charged $420 for a double bedroom, 2 adults and 2 kids from December 24th – 25th, we paid half the price of an all-inclusive in Punta Cana. The resort was not only affordable, but it also exceeded the luxury, relaxation and entertainment we were expecting.

The resort counts with many amenities such as pools, bars, coffee shop, restaurants, kids club, WiFi.

On Christmas eve, they offered a beautiful dinner by the beach, along with a live band playing tropical music thru the night. That night we felt the magic of the season.

Next day, Santa Clo (How we call Santa Claus in DR) arrived in a boat to take pictures with the kids and deliver gifts.

Coffee, good beers or drinks by this romantic setting.

Kid’s favorite was the pool and the many activities the entertainment team engaged them on. The pool water was too cold for me, but I’m a little dramatic with temperatures.

Above all amenities, the resort stands for its amazing customer service. Bartenders, waitresses, housekeepers, photographer, luggages porters and the whole staff in general. They are all beyond professional, welcoming and always with a smile in their faces that reminded me the truth spirit of Dominicans.

We were very lucky to have found this place, and so pleased by the service they provide. I will definitely visit them again in my next visit to Dominican Republic..
